Long Title: Ban cosmetic pesticides
More than a year ago, BC NDP Leader Adrian Dix stood with Environment Critic Rob Fleming, and our candidate in the Vancouver-Point Grey by-election David Eby, in calling for a province-wide ban on harmful cosmetic pesticides. Almost immediately, Premier Clark promised action to ban cosmetic pesticides. It never happened.
Instead of moving forward, Premier Clark appointed a legislative committee to study the matter. The Liberal majority on the committee then recommended against banning cosmetic pesticides, despite the scientific evidence and the vast majority of submissions to the committee that supported a ban.
Since the Liberal government isn’t moving forward, New Democrats are.
Adrian Dix and the BC NDP introduced a bill in the BC Legislature to ban the sale of cosmetic pesticides in BC. Last year, New Democrat pressure on the BC Liberals forced them to promise a ban. Now it's time to make sure they keep their promise.
