REALITY CHECK: B.C. LIBERALS LET FAMILIES DOWN BY EXPORTING JOBS WHILE B.C. LEADS THE COUNTRY IN JOB LOSSES
November 6, 2009
On the same day StatsCan announced B.C. had the worst record of jobs losses in the country last month, the B.C. Liberals continue to export jobs and push ahead with the job-killing HST.
- When confronted with news that 200 local jobs will be lost when Pollard Banknote closes its Kamloops plant and takes their lucrative contract with the B.C. Lotteries Corporation to Michigan and Manitoba next year, local Liberal MLA Kevin Krueger brushed off families’ concerns, saying it was just ‘a drag.’ (CHNL, Nov. 6, 2009).
- Last week, the B.C. Liberals let down British Columbians by sending hundreds of jobs from the B.C. Place roof project out of the province.
- The B.C. Liberals refused to support an Opposition amendment to the government’s “Wood First” act that would have encouraged the use of B.C. wood in public projects.
- Meanwhile, the B.C. Liberals continue to push ahead with the job-killing HST, which the tourism industry estimates will cost 10,000 jobs in their sector alone.
Under the Liberal government, B.C. has had the worst rate of full-time job losses, the second-worst performing economy, and highest level of child poverty in the country.
