BC NDP nominates two-time Olympian and Cabinet Minister Ravi Kahlon in Delta North to stand up for housing, healthcare and more

Ravi Kahlon thanked a cheering crowd of family, friends and volunteers at his nomination today as the BCNDP’s candidate in Delta North for this fall’s election.

A two-time Olympian for Team Canada in field hockey and inductee in the Delta Sports Hall of Fame, Kahlon was elected twice in 2017 and 2020. He currently serves as the Minister of Housing and Government House Lead. Ravi and his family have lived in Delta for more than twenty years and have deep roots in the community.

“People in Delta North have urgent needs in housing, healthcare, education, and affordable childcare,” said Kahlon. “Our growing community's future hinges on our ability to build strong, safe, and inclusive neighborhoods. The cost of Conservative or BCU leadership is too high a price for our progress. I am committed to tirelessly advocating for policies that ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive right here in Delta North.”

Since forming government in July 2017, Kahlon and the BC NDP have taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Delta North and across the province including:

  • Strengthening healthcare by building and expanding hospitals in Surrey, Burnaby, Vancouver and Richmond
  • Hiring new doctors and nurses, plus licensing internationally-trained health professionals to work in BC
  • Tackling housing costs by taking on speculators, updating zoning rules to allow for more townhouses, duplexes and triplexes, and making it easier for cities to build more homes near transit
  • Connecting communities across the province with new infrastructure, including the Surrey-Langley Skytrain, Patullo bridge replacement and Massey crossing — while keeping tolls off bridges
  • Keeping kids safe by taking phones out of classrooms and building new schools

“As a tireless advocate, Ravi is helping make sure people can build a good life here,” said Premier David Eby. “He has led the charge to make housing more accessible and affordable in Delta North and across BC. People living here can count on him to be a champion for them and the issues they care about.”

The BC NDP will run a full slate of 93 candidates when British Columbians vote in October 2024.
