For 16 years, the BC Liberal government let speculators make millions off the housing crisis. That’s why the BC NDP introduced the speculation and vacancy tax to stop those taking advantage of the crisis. In its first year, the speculation tax raised $115 million from 1% of property owners – like foreign owners, satellite families, and those with empty homes.

But Andrew Wilkinson and the BC Liberals have said they’ll scrap the tax to give speculators a break.
