Raj Chouhan, now officially the BC NDP candidate for Burnaby-New Westminster, is dedicated to solutions that work for people.

Raj Chouhan moved to Canada in 1973, and has spent his career fighting for regular people. Elected five times as MLA, Raj is the first South Asian person to serve as Speaker of the House in the BC legislature. Raj is the founding President of the Canadian Farmworkers’ Union and the founding member of the BC Organization to Fight Racism. He knows that regular people need a government that works for them, not the rich and the powerful.

“People in Burnaby-New Westminster need strong public services. They need a government that will invest. Falcon and Rustad made deep cuts to healthcare and education once. They’d do it again,” said Chouhan. “Our BC NDP team is committed to taking action on the issues that people in Burnaby-New Westminster care about. We are in your corner.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Burnaby-New Westminster, including:

• Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built;
• Helping people get care when they need it by building and upgrading hospitals in Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey and Richmond;
• Putting money back in your pocket by eliminating MSP premiums, lowering ICBC rates by $500 a year and boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445; and
• Getting you around faster with record investments in transportation projects, including expanding SkyTrain, adding lanes to Highway 1, and replacing the Pattullo Bridge and Massey Tunnel.
