The B.C. Conservatives have acknowledged that a constitutional amendment would be required in order to keep Lorne Doerkson as their leader, even if he wins the election.

Amending the B.C. Conservative constitution requires a two-thirds majority at an AGM of party members:

10.03: The Constitution and Bylaw Review Committee Chair shall present the proposed changes to the Constitution and Bylaws to the attendees at the AGM or SGM to be voted on as a special resolution requiring a two thirds (2/3) majority vote of the Members present for adoption. (Constitution, p. 11)

That means over 66% support would be required to keep Doerkson as leader, despite Findlay’s election showing that the far-right faction represents at least 50% of party members.

Findlay’s resignation has already prompted a strong backlash from those same B.C. Conservative members, who consider Doerkson to be part of the same B.C. Liberal wing that Findlay defeated in May.
