VANCOUVER- Today Interim Leader of the BC Conservatives Lorne Doerkson announced that the BC Conservatives oppose David Eby and the BC NDP’s plan to to turn empty condos into homes that people can afford, with an increase to the speculation tax and a new Unsold Condo Tax.

The BC Conservatives have consistently opposed David Eby’s housing plan that is making a difference bringing down housing costs.

Asking rents across B.C are down over 10%, 19% in Vancouver since the peak in 2023.

The BC Conservatives would rip up this work, and let speculators drive up the cost of housing again - profiting at the expense of people who need homes. .

Examples of Conservative opposition to housing action for people:

• They have said they would repeal small scale multi-unit housing, and bring back the red tape that blocked construction and caused the housing crisis in the first place.
• They brought forward legislation to gut short term rental restrictions that turned thousands of Airbnbs into homes for people.
• They said that the speculation and vacancy tax should be scrapped, turning people’s homes back into empty units and driving up rents .
