BC NDP to bring new CT scanner to Haida Gwaii if re-elected

DAAJING GIIDS – A re-elected BC NDP government will deliver a new CT scanner at Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre–Xaayda Gwaay Ngaaysdll Naay, helping people access vital diagnostic imaging sooner and closer to home.

“People on Haida Gwaii deserve access to the healthcare they need close to home,” said Tamara Davidson, BC NDP candidate for North Coast-Haida Gwaii. “A new CT scanner will mean fewer patients need to be transferred off-island for essential scans, helping people get answers and treatment sooner while reducing stress for patients and their families. This is an important investment in healthcare for our island communities.”

A new CT scanner in Haida Gwaii is expected to reduce unnecessary patient transfers by roughly 40% and improve outcomes for patients experiencing strokes, trauma, and other urgent medical conditions.

This announcement builds on David Eby’s plan to expand diagnostic capacity across the province with eight new MRI machines and 10 CT scanners, helping people in rural, remote and growing communities access critical scans sooner.

Since first elected, the BC NDP has added over 1,800 specialists, along with 21 MRI units and 15 CT scanners across the province. Completed MRI exams are up 108% and CT exams are up 61%. B.C. hospitals completed a record 382,000 surgeries last year.

The conservative parties' plan to aggressively cut the deficit, coupled with unfunded spending promises, would mean deep cuts to healthcare.
