BC NDP commits to new Urgent and Primary Care Centres in Kitimat and Terrace

TERRACE –A re-elected BC NDP government will bring new Urgent and Primary Care Centres to Kitimat and Terrace, helping people in the Northwest access timely medical care closer to home.

“People in Kitimat and Terrace deserve reliable access to health care in their communities,” said Sarah Zimmerman, BC NDP candidate for Skeena. “Protecting and strengthening healthcare is critical right now. We still have more work to do to get everyone the care they deserve. We can’t afford to go backwards now.”

Urgent and Primary Care Centres provide care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, such as infections, minor injuries and cuts requiring stitches. They help connect patients with the right care without requiring every urgent health concern to be addressed through an emergency department.

Since taking office, the BC NDP has opened 48 UPCC's and has 24 new and expanded hospitals complete or underway, including the new state-of-the-art Ksyen Regional Hospital, which opened in 2024.

A million more people are now connected to a family doctor, with more to come and 800 doctors, nurses and healthcare workers have already been recruited from the U.S., with a plan to recruit more.

The BC Conservative party’s plan to aggressively cut the deficit means deep cuts to health care. Their fiscal plan has a $5 billion gap and they have said healthcare would “take the brunt” of their cuts.
