BC NDP launches campaign to reform BC’s broken political system

VANCOUVER— The BC NDP launched a petition campaign Wednesday asking British Columbians to show their support for a proportional voting system and getting big money out of politics.

“On May 9, 60 per cent of British Columbians voted for change,” said MLA-elect Lisa Beare. “People voted overwhelmingly to get big money out of politics, to move toward a proportional voting system and to stop funding partisan government ads with taxpayer money.”

Beare notes that the election results present an unprecedented opportunity to work across party lines to make real changes that put people back at the center of politics in BC.

“Now is our chance to fix this broken system and the BC NDP will be working hard to get it done,” said Beare. “We’re asking British Columbians to send a clear message that it’s time to work together and make real changes to make our political system work better for people.”
