BC NDP nominates cabinet minister and twice re-elected MLA Anne Kang in Burnaby Centre

Burnaby, BC — Surrounded by friends, family and supporters from across the region, Anne Kang was officially nominated as the BC NDP's candidate in Burnaby Centre for this fall’s provincial election.

A resident of Burnaby for more than 30 years, Anne Kang began volunteering in her community when she was eight years old. A three-term Burnaby City Councillor, twice re-elected MLA and cabinet minister, Anne is dedicated to making life better for people and families. She is currently the Minister of Municipal Affairs, championing growing communities by providing support to 188 local governments in BC, providing leadership to BC’s economic immigration, and enhancing provincial support to libraries.

“As a former teacher, and a mother to two teenagers, I’ve seen firsthand the damage that previous governments have done to public services, and how much that hurts people here in Burnaby,” said Anne Kang. “Our BC NDP team is putting people first, improving healthcare, tackling the housing crisis, and supporting kids, families and seniors. There’s so much more to do for people, and I’m ready to get started.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Burnaby Centre, including:

  • Strengthening healthcare by building and expanding hospitals in Surrey, Vancouver, Burnaby and Richmond.
  • Hiring new doctors and nurses, and licensing internationally-trained health professionals to work in BC.
  • Tackling housing prices by taking on real estate speculators and building more homes for people,
  • Creating thousands of affordable childcare spaces

“Anne Kang has deep roots in Burnaby that she’s grown over decades of public service,” said Premier David Eby. “She’s focused, driven and has a deep understanding of how governments can make life better for everyone, not just those at the top. Anne is a huge asset to our BC NDP team, and I know she’ll continue doing everything she can for people in Burnaby so they can build a good life for themselves and their families.”

British Columbians will elect their next provincial government on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
