BC NDP nominates environmental advocate Brittny Anderson in Kootenay Central to fight for you

Brittny Anderson pledged today to make housing, health care and environmental progress her priorities after being nominated the BC NDP's candidate in Kootenay-Central for this fall’s provincial election.

A lifelong resident of the Kootenays and former small-business owner, Brittny was elected MLA for Nelson-Creston in 2020. She previously served her community as a Nelson city councillor and board member for the Regional District of Central Kootenay. Like so many people in the Kootenays, Brittny is passionate about spending time outdoors, and can often be found hiking with her family and her dog Stella.

“The Kootenays may be far away from the BC legislature, but this community and the people who live here are at the heart of everything we are doing,” said Anderson. “Our BC NDP team is on your side, delivering more housing, better health care and action on climate change. We can’t risk John Rustad’s Conservatives, their climate inaction and the reckless cuts they’d bring to the services people rely on. I’m committed to working for you and your family so all of us can build a good life here.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Kootenay-Central including:

  • Strengthening healthcare by creating more beds and services locally and hiring 700 more doctors and licensing internationally trained health professionals to work across BC;
  • Tackling housing costs by taking on speculators, updating zoning rules to allow for more townhouses, duplexes and triplexes, and building more homes and shelter spaces;
  • Expanding $10 day care, reducing fees for families and adding hundreds of new childcare spaces; and
  • Introducing the CleanBC plan to reduce greenhouse emissions 40% by 2030.

“Born and raised in the Kootenays, Brittny understands the challenges facing people here and is a tremendous advocate for you,” said Premier David Eby. “She is a strong champion for the housing, education and health care services you need while being your voice for protecting the pristine environment that makes the Kootnays so special.”

Brittny Anderson will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
