BC NDP’s Jinny Sims seeking Re-Election in Surrey-Panorama

She’s worked tirelessly to build strong communities that are safe and inclusive for all, and now Jinny Sims will carry John Horgan’s NDP banner in the next election.

The lifelong community advocate, teacher, former head of the BC Teachers’ Federation and previous federal Member of Parliament, Jinny Sims was nominated Friday to seek re-election as the BC NDP candidate in the riding of Surrey-Panorama.

“Under the leadership of John Horgan, I want to continue the work we’re doing for the people of Surrey-Panorama, because there is still much more to do,” Jinny said. “The BC Liberals want to go back to cutting programs rather than investing in our future — that’s a risk we cannot afford as we work to recover from COVID-19.”

As part of the John Horgan government, Jinny helped to expand affordable childcare and improve education. As Minister of Citizen’s Services, she expanded high-speed internet to thousands of homes and businesses. With her NDP colleagues, Jinny has begun the work to make Surrey a ‘second downtown’ which will include an innovation corridor and a second Surrey hospital with a new cancer care centre.

“Jinny understands what it means to fight for people who are worried about their health and their livelihoods,” John Horgan said. “I’m proud that she will continue her work as part of our team as together we will build a long-term recovery that will protect the health of British Columbians and secure their future.”
