Concerns growing about Christy Clark’s plan to let her rich donors jump the healthcare queue

It’s been a week since BC Liberal MLA Linda Reimer said she supports expanding health care privatization “for those who are able to afford it.

It’s also been a week since Christy Clark refused to answer a direct question on whether she would expand private care if re-elected.

BC Liberal support for letting rich people skip the line has British Columbians speaking out.

Former Anmore mayor and longtime BC Liberal riding executive member Hal Weinberg ripped up his party membership, saying:

I was just completely disappointed...I'm a strong supporter of a Canadian health system. Reimer seems to have supported a dual system. I was always against that."

Jim Nelson warned in the Tri-City News that:

Supporting choice in health care is a dog whistle to the wealthy — it means the opportunity to access private health care by those who can afford it.

Port Moody Resident and Co-Chair of the BC Health Coalition Edith MacHattie writes that she was:

“...dismayed to hear about Linda Reimer’s support for further privatizing our health care system.”

Christy Clark’s government is quietly advancing a proposal to massively increase the number of surgeries in private facilities: in effect, creating for-profit hospitals. While nurses call it “a dangerous move,” former Health Minister Terry Lake said it “hasn’t gone fast enough.”
