Eby calls on Doerkson to remove his top advisor after Islamophobic posts
Why this matters to you:
- A pattern of hate for Conservative campaign director: The National Council of Canadian Muslims says the Conservative campaign director’s posts show a pattern of Islamophobic views.
- Doerkson’s own standard: He removed a candidate over hateful posts, saying he “will not tolerate it.” Eby is asking him to apply the same rule to Katy Merrifield.
- Showing leadership only when convenient: Doerkson will fire an unwinnable candidate but refuses to take action on his campaign director. That’s not leadership.
The National Council of Canadian Muslims has issued a statement characterizing posts from BC Conservative Campaign Director Katy Merrifield’s as showing “a pattern of Islamophobic views.”
Merrifield posted “f*ck Islam. Defend Western civilization… expel this abhorrent ideology and everyone who defends it.” (June 17, 2026)
She subsequently amplified openly Islamophobic content, including:
A post saying “Islam is a literal rape culture.” (June 19, 2026)
A post saying “New Yorkers got a jihad-loving mayor” and blaming Islam as a whole for the 9/11 terrorist attacks. (Sept 11, 2026)
A speech called “Should the west be suspicious of Islam?” in which the speaker says "at Islam's core is political, theological dominance, not private internal faith. They may try to hide it, but it is written in blood across the centuries until today." (Aug 3, 2026)
When Doerkson removed his candidate Joachim Agou over hate-filled posts, he said: “There is no excuse for this. I will not tolerate it. The candidate in Victoria-Beacon Hill is no longer a Conservative candidate.”
This morning Eby said: “I call on the leader of the Conservative Party to live by his own words: that hate has no place in our province. He has to remove her.”
Video of Eby addressing it is available here.
