Eby challenges Doerkson on Massey cancellation
DELTA - Today David Eby stood with the workers who are on site currently building the Massey Tunnel replacement. He dared Lorne Doerkson to explain to those workers why Doerkson would fire them, set the project back years, and make commuters wait.
Here are David Eby's comments:
“We are supporting the British Columbians who are building this - they’re supporting their families at home. I would challenge the Conservative Leader to show up at this site, look these workers in the eye and say ‘I’m firing you, I’m sending you home’... ‘and I have a better idea and that eventually I’ll let you know.’
“People can't afford to wait, people need the tunnel. They need to be able to get to work and get home. Not only are we building the tunnel, but we're making sure that we're building every corner of British Columbia."

The BC NDP will complete a new, toll-free eight-lane tunnel that will reduce congestion, save drivers time, and provide dedicated space for cyclists and transit.
Workers are on the site now completing ground preparation, construction of working platforms, and development of the casting basin.
The BC NDP secured investment of up to $3 billion from the federal government to deliver this project - funding that would fall through if the project was paused by the BC Conservatives.
