Farnworth and Dix to seek re-election with the BC NDP

VANCOUVER- Adrian Dix will be the BC NDP’s candidate in Vancouver-Renfrew and Mike Farnworth will represent the party in Port Coquitlam.

Adrian Dix has served as a cabinet minister under Premiers Eby and Horgan, including as Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, Minister of Health, and Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs. He was first elected as an MLA in 2005 and is a strong advocate for public healthcare. As Health Minister, he protected British Columbians and the public health system during the COVID-19 pandemic. As Energy Minister, he helped advance new wind and solar projects through BC Hydro with First Nations as equity partners, reflecting his commitment to clean energy and Indigenous economic participation.

“I’m a New Democrat because I believe a strong economy should serve people,” said Dix. “By creating good jobs and growing industries like clean energy, we can fund the hospitals, schools and services families rely on. I’m proud to be part of a team working to build that kind of economy in B.C.”

Mike Farnworth, the BC NDP’s longest-serving MLA, was first elected as the MLA for Port Coquitlam in 1991, and served until 2001 and then again from 2005 to the present. Farnworth currently serves as Government House Leader and Minister of Transportation and Transit. As well, he has held many other integral roles in government including Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Minister of Health, and Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. Farnworth was raised in Port Coquitlam and has lived there for more than 50 years.

“As the trade war with Donald Trump intensifies, our province finds itself in an existential moment,” said Farnworth. “British Columbians need a government that will stand up for our workers, protect the services people rely on and build an economy that is less dependent on the United States. That’s the work David Eby and our team are doing, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

“Adrian and Mike bring decades of experience and steady leadership to protect jobs, strengthen B.C.’s economy and keep major projects moving,” said David Eby, BC NDP Leader. “While Donald Trump threatens our workers and businesses, the Conservatives have spent months attacking B.C.’s response to this trade war. They’ve pushed for healthcare cuts and privatization. British Columbians can’t risk the chaos of the conservatives.”

Both Dix and Farnworth are part of a team focused on freeing B.C.’s economy from the United States, lowering costs, and recruiting more healthcare workers. They are some of the BC NDP’s most senior MLAs and know how serious the threat is coming from the United States. The conservative parties would cozy up to Trump, cut healthcare and hike costs on working people – an agenda British Columbians simply cannot afford.

Voters go to the polls on October 24, 2026.
