“I would maybe not hazard a guess” and other highlights from Lorne Doerkson’s latest detail-free announcement

The Interim Conservative Leader convened reporters today to roll out another series of vague promises while dodging questions and denying follow-ups.

Even Doerkson’s secret letter to trial lawyers contained more details than the economic plan he announced today.

He provided:

  • No info on how much the PST change would cost, adding to his tally of magic math
  • No details or examples of what “red tape” he would supposedly cut
  • No idea how many jobs his plan would create: “I would maybe not hazard a guess”
  • No estimates of economic growth or government revenue to support his claims that his plan would fund services like healthcare

He repeated his promise to triple LNG production by 2035, which would fall well short of production from projects already under construction or permitted under the BC NDP.

In 2026, the CFIB gave BC top marks for low regulatory burden/red tape, one of the top scores in the country.

$130 billion in major projects are currently on the way in BC - more than any other province and representing over 50,000 construction and long-term jobs. Over half of these projects have already reached positive investment decisions.

Doerkson’s staff continued to shield him from follow-up questions that would let journalists probe the lack of detail in his plans or challenge his magic math.
