Terrace City Councillor Sarah Zimmerman was nominated as the BC NDP candidate in Skeena, committing to take action for the people of her riding.

Sarah Zimmerman, an elected Terrace City Councillor and the former Executive Director of Communications for Coast Mountain College, cares deeply about her community. Zimmerman has roots in Skeena: from raising three children, to donating her time to support local arts, sports and tourism-related organizations, she understands local challenges because she has lived them.
“Families in Skeena need a government that has their back: one that tackles rising costs and invests in the strong public services that we need,” said Zimmerman. “That’s what we’ll get with the BC NDP. Falcon and Rustad would just bring reckless cuts to healthcare and education. They did it once, and we can’t let them do it again.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Skeena, including:

• Putting money back in your pocket by eliminating MSP premiums, lowering ICBC rates by $500 a year and boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445;
• Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built;
• Connecting people to the care they need by hiring 700 more family doctors, licensing internationally-educated healthcare workers in BC and building a new medical school at SFU Surrey to train even more doctors; and
• Saving lives by connecting people to harm reduction and treatment, adding hundreds of drug treatment and complex care spaces, and doubling the number of youth treatment beds.

“As the former Executive Director of Communications for Coast Mountain College and as an elected City Councillor, Sarah brings both extensive professional experience and a personal commitment to her community to the race,” said Premier David Eby. “The people of Skeena would be well-served by her commitment to local action.”
