Jagrup Brar on why the BC Liberals are out of touch with Surrey

Surrey is the fastest growing city in BC, welcoming almost 1,000 new residents each month.

During a population boom like this one, a city’s only livable if its infrastructure keeps up.

That means transit, schools, libraries and playgrounds need to be built alongside the population growth.

This is something that Jagrup Brar, our candidate for Surrey-Fleetwood, says the BC Liberals ignored.

“Christy Clark has completely failed to build the infrastructure and services that people need for the growing population. The BC Liberals are out of touch with the reality in Surrey.”

And for Brar, it becomes very personal when it comes to education.

There are 6,000+ children in Surrey who go to school in portable classrooms.

And his daughter Noor was one of them. She’s currently in grade 12 but went to elementary school in a portable.

Jagrup’s son Fateh is currently in grade 4 and in a new school but there are already several portable classrooms. And when he hits the 5th grade, there’s a chance Fateh will end up in a portable at his school.

“I’m worried that my son will have his education in a portable, with bigger class sizes. The BC Liberals have made the choice to leave our kids in low-quality portables."

From her time as Minister of Education to today, Christy Clark has been in a never-ending fight against the success of our children in public schools.

Jagrup believes the BC NDP are the best choice for people in Surrey because they will invest in schools, replace portables with real classrooms and build new schools in BC’s fastest growing region.

“When I’m knocking on doors what I hear from people is that everywhere we look, there’s a crisis. Public education, public safety, and health care,” says Brar. “The BC NDP offers a vision that is very important to the people of Surrey – to invest in the services we need and make life more affordable.”
