BC NDP releases costing for Eby’s plan to build B.C. strong

New commitments paid for by asking those at the top to chip in a bit more, growing the economy

VANCOUVER – The BC NDP has released the full costing for David Eby’s plan to strengthen health care, protect people from rising costs, and create good-paying jobs. The new commitments made during the campaign are paid for by asking the top 3.88 per cent of income earners to contribute a bit more and by continuing to grow B.C.’s economy.

“While Lorne Doerkson would blow a multi-billion-dollar hole in the budget, we’re being upfront about how we pay for our plan. We’ll keep growing our economy with major projects – and unlike the Conservatives, we’ll ask those at the top to chip in a bit more,” said David Eby, BC NDP leader. “Our plan is fully costed and focused on what matters most to working families in uncertain times. We’ll protect you from rising costs at the gas pump and grocery till while we make sure you get quality public health care – when and where you need it. That’s how we build B.C. strong.”

Promises made by the BC Conservatives in this campaign would blow a $5 billion hole in the budget, paid for through deep cuts to health care and public services. Their tax plan alone will cost at least $3 billion a year – including $200 million in tax breaks going to the wealthiest British Columbians. Meanwhile, David Eby’s commitments have been fully costed and will responsibly lower the deficit over time while making critical investments in health care, job creation, and measures to bring down costs for British Columbians.
