Langley-Walnut Grove, meet your advocate: Megan Dykeman nominated by BC NDP to take action on what matters to people

Megan Dykeman, a strong community champion that gets results for people, was nominated today as the BC NDP candidate for Langley-Walnut Grove.

Megan Dykeman is the current MLA for the riding of Langley East, and serves as the Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development and Non-Profits. She holds a Master's Degree in International Relations from Macquarie University where her research focused on food security. Prior to being elected as MLA in 2020, Megan served as Chair of the Langley Board of Education, elected 3 times to the board as a Trustee. Megan has farmed for over 20 years, and is proud to have raised her two children in the Township of Langley, where she still resides on her specialty poultry farm.

“As a parent, I know how important it is to have a government that’s dedicated to tackling rising costs — but with their record of hiking fees and tolls, that’s not what we’ll get from either John Rustad or Kevin Falcon,” said Dykeman. “Where they made deep cuts to schools and hospitals, we’ve been reducing the cost of childcare, and building more homes people can afford.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Langley-Walnut Grove, including:

  • Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built;
  • Connecting people to the care they need by hiring 700 more family doctors, licensing internationally-educated healthcare workers in BC and building a new medical school at SFU Surrey to train even more doctors;
  • Putting money back in your pocket by eliminating MSP premiums, lowering ICBC rates by $500 a year and boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445; and
  • Creating 75,000 good paying jobs in the last year to make BC an economic leader in Canada, with the highest wages in the country.

“I have worked with Megan for years. She has deep roots in Langley, and understands the challenges that families there are facing,” said Premier David Eby. “I can’t imagine a better candidate to champion Langley’s interests and values.”

Megan Dykeman will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
