Ma and Osborne to seek re-election

VANCOUVER- Bowinn Ma will be the BC NDP candidate for North Vancouver–Lonsdale and Josie Osborne will be the BC NDP candidate for Mid Island–Pacific Rim.

Elected in 2017, 2020 and 2024, Bowinn has served as Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness and Minister of Infrastructure. A professional engineer and working mother, she welcomed her daughter in 2023, becoming the third B.C. cabinet minister to give birth while in office, and welcomed her son in 2026. Her collaborative work on a regional transportation strategy helped pave the way for a rapid transit concept to the North Shore, which the TransLink Mayors’ Council has since identified as a regional priority.

“We've made real progress for people right here in North Vancouver by strengthening healthcare, building more affordable homes, and investing in our schools, all while working to establish British Columbia as an economic leader in Canada,” said Ma. “I'm proud of what we've delivered for our local community, but there is much more to do and I'm committed to continuing to serve the people of North Vancouver every day.”

Josie has called Tofino home for more than 25 years, first working as a fisheries biologist for the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council before leading an environmental education non-profit and serving as Tofino’s mayor for nearly eight years. First elected MLA for Mid Island-Pacific Rim in 2020, Josie has served as B.C.’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, Minister of Health and Minister of Finance.

“At a time when Donald Trump is threatening our economy and our way of life, people in Mid Island-Pacific Rim are counting on us to keep strengthening healthcare, bringing rents down and standing up for B.C.,” said Osborne. “We’ve made real progress, connecting more than one million people to primary care since 2018, welcoming more doctors and nurses from the U.S., and building new hospitals and cancer centres. We won’t stop fighting for people across B.C.”

“Bowinn and Josie have a proven track record of getting results for people all over the province, and I have no doubt they’ll continue to fight for their communities,” said leader of the BC NDP David Eby, “People in B.C. need strong, competent and principled leaders like Bowinn and Josie now more than ever.”

Bowinn and Josie are part of a team focused on making B.C.’s economy more resilient and less dependent on the United States, lowering costs and recruiting more health-care workers. They understand the seriousness of the threat from Donald Trump and the need to stand up for B.C. The Conservative parties would take a different approach: cozying up to Trump, cutting health care and increasing costs for working people. That’s an agenda British Columbians simply cannot afford.
