More BC NDP candidates step forward to represent communities across B.C.

VICTORIA – The BC NDP is announcing more candidates running in the October 24th provincial election.

Loyal Wooldridge will run in Kelowna Centre, Christine Boyle in Vancouver-Little Mountain, Niki Sharma in Vancouver-Hastings, Pam Alexis in Abbotsford-Mission, Callista Ryan in Vancouver-Quilchena, and Sunita Dhir in Vancouver-Langara.

The candidates join David Eby’s BC NDP team as the party campaigns on plans to strengthen B.C.’s economy, lower costs, and recruit more healthcare workers.

In recent days Eby has proposed new “Built in B.C. and Canada” procurement rules for public infrastructure projects, action to to turn more empty condos into homes people can afford, and an expansion of B.C.’s recruitment of healthcare workers from the United States.

“British Columbians know what’s at stake in this election,” said David Eby, Leader of the BC NDP. “With Trump attacking our jobs and economy, people are looking for stability and a government that stands up for B.C., not Conservative cuts, chaos and higher costs. Our BC NDP candidates are focused on affordability, housing and healthcare, so we can get through these challenges together and come out stronger.”

The candidates include incumbents, returning candidates, and community leaders from across the province, bringing a mix of legislative, municipal and local experience to the campaign.

QUOTES

Loyal Wooldridge –

“People need leaders who show up and deliver results when a crisis hits. During the wildfires, I worked with regional partners to support evacuees and pressed for better emergency services. I’m running with the BC NDP to deliver for Kelowna, and help protect good jobs that lower costs, grow our economy and strengthen healthcare.”

Christine Boyle –

“The conservative parties have routinely sided against you and a Team Canada approach during a critical moment for our country. We need a government that’s ready to stand up for B.C., invest in strong public services, build homes and create good jobs, to protect the people and places we love. That’s David Eby and the BC NDP and I’m proud to be on this team.”

Niki Sharma –

"We are ready to keep fighting for British Columbians and the services they rely on. I am proud to be a part of a committed team of talented people, who are focused on delivering for British Columbians through challenging times."

Pam Alexis –

“It’s tough out there right now, and families in Abbotsford and Mission need an MLA and a government that’s looking out for them. That means making daily life easier, including safer commutes and less time on the road. The completion last month of Highway 7’s expansion to four lanes between Maple Ridge and Mission, along with the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program, will help people spend less time commuting and more time at home. David Eby and the BC NDP are also strengthening health care by hiring doctors and nurses, bringing down housing costs and creating good-paying jobs.”

Callista Ryan –

“People in Vancouver-Quilchena deserve serious leadership that will stand up for our province, protect people through economic uncertainty and build for the future. At a time when B.C. is facing real challenges, we need stability and a government that can work with Ottawa to bring investment home, strengthen our economy and protect the services people rely on. That’s the kind of leadership David Eby and the BC NDP are providing, and it’s why I’m proud to be running again.”

Sunita Dhir –

“I’m proud to be a part of a team that has made real progress for people, like bringing rental costs down and connecting more British Columbians to a family doctor. We have more work to do, but the conservative plan would put it all at risk. The BC NDP is the only party committed to protecting what matters most.”
