Taking action for people in Bulkley Valley-Stikine, Nathan Cullen represents the BC NDP with a focus on progress for people
With a vision for more progress in Bulkley Valley-Stikine, Nathan Cullen has been nominated as the constituency’s BC NDP candidate, promising to take on tough challenges to make life better for people.
As the proud MLA for Stikine, Nathan Cullen is also the Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship. As a community organizer, business owner and elected representative of the northwest, Cullen is dedicated to helping people in his community and region. Cullen also served as the Member of Parliament for Skeena-Bulkley for 15 years and was named Parliamentarian of the Year multiple times by his federal colleagues.
“People in our community are facing tough challenges, and they need a government that’s on their side and is focused on reducing the cost of living. That’s not what they’ll get from Rustad or Falcon, who cut healthcare and education when they were in power and who would do it again,” said Cullen. “Our BC NDP government has been acting on housing, lowering the cost of living, and keeping the northwest economy strong. We have accomplished great things together and there is much more we will do, together.”
Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Bulkley Valley-Stikine, including:
- Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built;
- Connecting people to the care they need by hiring 700 more family doctors, licensing internationally-educated healthcare workers in BC and building a new medical school at SFU Surrey to train even more doctors;
- Putting money back in your pocket by eliminating MSP premiums, lowering ICBC rates by $500 a year and boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445; and
- Saving lives by connecting people to harm reduction and treatment, adding hundreds of drug treatment and complex care spaces, and doubling the number of youth treatment beds.
“Nathan has been an outstanding Minister in this government, and a champion for people in the Bulkley Valley and beyond,” said Premier David Eby. “He is dedicated to his community, and is focused on making things easier for people, not the powerful.”
Nathan Cullen will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
