Wilkinson confirms millionaires get a tax break on yachts and Maseratis under his plan

Wilkinson claimed yesterday that luxury cars are still subject to sales tax. But he didn’t mention that only applies to cars worth more than $125,000.

The PST rate on cars between $57,000 and $125,000 is 10% meaning wealthy people buying more expensive cars will get a bigger tax break both in dollars and percentage.

That’s right, under Wilkinson’s plan, millionaires will still get tax breaks for:

2020 Jaguar F-Type Convertible
Price: $101,000
Tax Break: $10,100

2020 Maserati Ghibli
Price: $122,380
Tax Break: $12,238

2020 Mercedes AMG E-Class
Price: $120,450
Tax Break: $12,450

While Andrew Wilkinson has chosen to continue to apply PST to things like cannabis and vaping products, he’s giving millionaires $70,000 on the purchase of a million dollar yacht, or more than $12,000 on a Maserati.
Here are the core costs that Wilkinson’s plan won’t help people with:

  • Rent
  • Buying a home
  • Groceries
  • Car insurance
  • Childcare
  • Children’s clothing
  • School supplies

Wilkinson’s plan saves a family making over $120,000 four times what it saves someone making $30,000.
