Three ways David Eby will improve care for women

For too long, women have been gaslit and ignored when they tried to get medical help. David Eby's plan builds on real progress, and there's more to do.

  1. 1

A first-in-Canada perinatal mental health unit

At B.C. Women's Hospital, so mothers in a mental health crisis can heal with their babies by their side, instead of being separated or going without inpatient care.

  2. 2

    Better access to menopause care

Affordable PharmaCare coverage for alternative treatments for breast cancer survivors and women with medical conditions, and faster, easier access to local vaginal estrogen through pharmacists for recurrent UTIs and physical discomfort.

  3. 3

    A province-wide women's health strategy

Working with B.C.'s women's health experts to expand menopause care, reduce delays in diagnosis and treatment, strengthen community reproductive, sexual and menstrual health services, and improve maternal and perinatal mental health care.

Since 2017, the BC NDP has

  • Opened Western Canada's first Complex Menopause Clinic
  • Made birth control and Menopausal Hormone Therapy free
  • Funded one standard IVF cycle and medications
  • Introduced at-home cervical cancer screening kits
  • Expanded HPV vaccinations
  • Enabled pharmacists to prescribe contraception and UTI treatments

The B.C. Conservatives' candidates and health critic champion private, pay-for-care. In Alberta, that means patients charged out of pocket. Here, it would mean longer waits and fewer services like the Complex Menopause Clinic.
