How we’re responding to the Tumbler Ridge tragedy, and what you can do too

Like you, we are heartbroken by the devastating tragedy in Tumbler Ridge.

Our thoughts are with the community, with those who are grieving loved ones, those who are recovering, the first responders, and everyone whose lives have been forever changed. This is something that will reverberate for years to come.

Our government is making sure that community members have every possible support in the coming days, as we all try to come to terms with this unimaginable tragedy.

Provincial resources from across British Columbia have been mobilized to Tumbler Ridge to support the community, including mental-health and victims-services professionals. People are on the ground now, with more en route.

As Premier David Eby said, our focus must be on wrapping our arms around the Tumbler Ridge community, and everyone impacted, with love — and making sure that the people receive the support they need.

Be extra kind to one another. In times like these, we show what makes us proud to be British Columbians. As the Prime Minister said, “Our ability to come together in crisis is the best of our country — our empathy, our unity, and our compassion for each other”.

Share information about services available — or take advantage of them yourself, if you need them.

Northern Health has created a space at the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre to allow the community to come together over the next few days and as needed. All will be welcome to attend and connect. Mental health professionals will be present to provide support.

The Prince George Hospice and Palliative Care Society will be holding afternoon virtual grief support gatherings this week too.
