BC NDP will build a new Cowichan hospital, grow BC jobs and invest in public health care

DUNCAN —While Christy Clark expands private health care for the rich, John Horgan and the BC NDP will build a new hospital in the Cowichan Valley, a state-of-the-art facility built with BC wood.

“Christy Clark is quietly moving forward with a plan to create private hospitals that only the rich can afford. Her plan for private care means longer waits for patients and even fewer resources for public health care,” said BC NDP Leader John Horgan.

“Patients can’t afford another four years of Christy Clark’s cuts and neglect. We must reject the BC Liberal plan for two-tiered private health care and invest in public health care for people,” said Horgan.

John Horgan’s comments followed a campaign announcement in Duncan, where he committed to build a new hospital to provide much-needed health care services in the Cowichan Valley. The BC NDP has a $10 billion capital plan to invest in the services people count on and create 96,000 jobs. The BC NDP will build schools, hospitals and housing by using BC wood products wherever possible.

“For years I’ve worked with the Cowichan Valley Hospital Board to advocate for improved health services for people,” said Lori Iannidinardo, BC NDP candidate for Cowichan Valley. “Despite the hard work of health staff and advocates, health care has been getting worse, not better.”

“Christy Clark’s neglect has resulted in overcrowding and hallway medicine at facilities like Cowichan Hospital. She’s failed to fix the services people count on. We stand for public health care, where and when you need it,” said Horgan.
