Joined remotely by Premier John Horgan and a group of energized supporters, Ronna-Rae Leonard was nominated as the BC NDP candidate in Courtenay-Comox today.

A lifelong public servant and a former three-term Courtenay city councillor, Leonard is the current MLA for Courtenay-Comox and the Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors. She is the fourth BC NDP candidate to be nominated ahead of the next scheduled election in Fall 2021.

“I’m honoured to run again as the BC NDP candidate for Courtenay-Comox, and stand with Premier John Horgan,” said Leonard. “After 16 years of BC Liberals working for the wealthy and well-connected, we’ve made great progress for people in the Comox Valley. Andrew Wilkinson would work for the people at the top and make everyone pay for it with service cuts and tax hikes. That’s too big a risk for people in our communities.”

Over the last three years, Leonard and the BC NDP have delivered big investments and improvements for people in Courtenay-Comox, including:

• Adding 270 new long-term care and hospice beds so seniors can heal and age in the community they love;
• Building two new elementary school playgrounds, and upgrading four schools across the Comox Valley so students have a safe place to learn;
• Reducing childcare costs for parents and creating 212 new local childcare spaces;
• Building a new drinking water treatment plant; and
• Upgrading and improving Hwy 19 with 23km of new pavement.

“Ronna-Rae is an exceptional MLA who works hard every day to make life better for people in Courtenay-Comox,” said Premier John Horgan. “Her advocacy has helped deliver needed improvements to four local schools, create affordable childcare spaces, and expand long-term seniors care. We’re on the right track, but we have more work to do. That’s why we need to re-elect Ronna-Rae.”
