David Eby and BC NDP focused on working together and fighting for people at 2025 Convention

The BC NDP concluded its 49th Convention this weekend with a renewed commitment to fighting for people and building a stronger, more resilient BC.

“With authoritarianism on the rise, and Donald Trump attacking our economy and our sovereignty, the New Democratic vision is more important today than at any point in BC’s past,” said BC NDP leader David Eby. “We have everything we need to build a stronger, more secure future for everyone. That’s why it matters now more than ever that we have a government that builds a province that works for all of us, where everyone belongs, and no one gets left behind.”

The weekend brought together more than 800 delegates from all corners of British Columbia for the BC NDP’s first major gathering since last fall’s election victory. Attendees had the opportunity to skill up at development sessions, get inspired from keynote speakers like Hustle’s LaToia Jones and interim leader of the federal NDP Don Davies, and engage in spirited debates on policy resolutions.

Notable resolutions passed included:

  • Seeking public equity stakes to secure a return on investment for people;
  • Cracking down on short term rental violations;
  • Fighting the federal government for fair ferry fares;
  • Establishing an independent disability advocate;
  • Expanding low-cost insurance products offered by ICBC; and
  • Defending the North Coast tanker ban.

Following a rousing speech by Premier David Eby — after an introduction by his daughter Iva and son Ezra — BC NDP members endorsed his leadership with over 82% support.

With two-term party President Aaron Sumexheltza stepping away, Convention delegates elected lawyer, organizer, and former MLA for Richmond-Queensborough Aman Singh as his successor as President of the party.

The BC NDP gathers for convention every two years. The next convention will be held in fall 2027.
