Taking action for you in Coquitlam-Maillardville: Jennifer Blatherwick is nominated by the BC NDP to stand up for housing, healthcare and more
Following a nomination meeting, Jennifer Blatherwick will represent the BC NDP in Coquitlam-Maillardville, pledging to put people’s needs ahead of powerful interests.
As a two-term school board trustee in Coquitlam, and the Executive Director of a not-for-profit for at-risk youth, Jennifer is deeply connected to the issues that families in Coquitlam-Maillardville face.
“I’ve been lucky to raise five children here in Coquitlam, and I know from experience that families thrive when they have a government on their side,” said Blatherwick. “Kevin Falcon and John Rustad have shown they’ll pave the way for their powerful friends and their interests, and we can’t risk that. It’s more important than ever that we have a leader focused on making life better for families — hiring more doctors, creating more daycare spots, and building more schools. That’s David Eby.”
Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Coquitlam-Maillardville, including:
- Putting people ahead of speculators and investors by bringing in tough new restrictions on short-term rentals and a speculation tax, plus simplified approvals that make it easier and faster to get 300,000 new homes built;
- Helping people get care when they need it by building and upgrading hospitals in communities across the Lower Mainland;
- Putting money back in your pocket by eliminating MSP premiums, lowering ICBC rates by $500 a year and boosting the BC Family Benefit by $445; and
- Taking action to create 75,000 good paying jobs in the last year to make BC an economic leader in Canada, with the highest wages in the country.
“Jennifer has been a champion for people and families during her time on the Coquitlam School Board,” said Premier David Eby. “She will continue to stand up for them, and for people across this Province, as an MLA. I can’t wait to have her on the team.”
Jennifer Blatherwick will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
