Tech entrepreneur and Cabinet Minister Brenda Bailey to work for you as BC NDP candidate in Vancouver-South Granville

At her nomination today as the BC NDP candidate in Vancouver-South Granville, Brenda Bailey recommitted to looking out for people and standing against powerful interests.

Brenda was elected MLA for Vancouver-False Creek in 2020 and currently serves as the Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation. She co-founded Canada's first women-owned and operated video game studio, in response to the lack of high-quality games being developed for women and girls. She is also the past Executive Director of Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland where she helped young people realise their potential through mentorship.

“Our BC NDP team is doing things differently in BC, and I regularly hear from the people of Vancouver-South Granville that these actions are making a difference,” said Bailey. “Actions like lowering costs to hire and train new workers for all the skills the 21st-century economy demands. We're prioritizing improving healthcare at Vancouver General Hospital, and in the rest of the province. We're winning awards from the UN on our climate plan and working to advance reconciliation by working with First Nations and ensuring they have a say when it comes to BC's future. We're taking on real estate speculators and kickstarting housing construction - both by cutting red tape and by building non-market housing - so we can build homes people in Vancouver-South Granville can afford.”

Since forming government in July 2017, the BC NDP has taken action on crucial issues that matter to the people of Vancouver South Granville, including:

  • Strengthening healthcare by building and expanding hospitals in Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby and Surrey
  • Hiring new doctors and nurses, plus licensing internationally-trained health professionals to work in BC
  • Tackling housing costs by taking on speculators, updating zoning rules to allow for more townhouses, duplexes and triplexes, and making it easier for cities to build more homes near transit
  • Connecting communities across the province with new infrastructure, including the Surrey-Langley Skytrain, Patullo bridge replacement and Massey crossing — while keeping tolls off bridges
  • Growing the economy through clean technology and job creation

“Brenda has spearheaded our government’s actions to grow B.C’s clean tech sector which is helping to tackle climate change,” said Premier David Eby. “She’s focused on taking action to make Vancouver a place where people can afford a nice home, save for the future, and access the schools and health care they need to live a good life here.”

Brenda Bailey will join David Eby and 91 other exceptional BC NDP candidates in this fall’s provincial election, all committed to real action to help people build a good life here in BC.
